A vast majority of veterans that have experienced the Atlanta VA system have a negative outlook, and justifiably so. Some veterans have transferred their care to Augusta and Asheville and have no regrets switching. Driving an hour to see a Primary Care Doctor is taxing on many of our older veterans, as well as those with busy schedules. Luckily, many routine visits can be accomplished at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), while specialty clinics are located at the main VAMC.
However, with the growing use of Community Care, these veterans can receive most specialized care with local professionals instead of driving to the Atlanta VAMC.
The other issue at hand is the ridiculous timeframe of 8-10 years until the CBOC is operational, should the VA approve the project. Another talking point is that the VA is considering locating a MOBILE CBOC vehicle in Habersham until a permanent facility is constructed.
We are asking for all veterans in the area to please contact your REPRESENTATIVES in ALL LEVELS of government. Be sure to address these points:
1. The veterans of Habersham need a CBOC built in Habersham County.
2. The veterans of Habersham should not have to wait a DECADE.
3. The veterans of Habersham support a MOBILE CBOC now, until a permanent CBOC is built.
