HONOR GUARD

3-round volley

Flag and brass presentation

3-round volley

The 3-round volley, often mistaken for a "21" gun salute, is usually reserved for retirees. The military WILL NOT provide a firing team.

Our Honor Guard provides a 3-round volley to ALL veterans, upon request.  This ceremony has ancient roots, but commonly used during the Napoleonic wars and American Civil War to signify the clearing of the battlefield of the dead and injured.

Taps

Flag and brass presentation

3-round volley

Dating back to the Civil War, taps was first used to denote "lights out," replacing a tune known as Tatoo.

Most funerals we can provide a live bugler to play Taps.  In the event the bugler is unavailable, we have a real bugle with a built-in speaker to play just as loud as the real thing.

In most instances, the military will send a flag-folding team for a funeral.  Your funeral home must request it.  We stand ready to provide this service, as well as presenting the brass to the widow or family.

Combined Organizations

The Grant Reeves Veterans Honor Guard is comprised of FOUR Veteran organizations: the VFW, DAV, American Legion, and the VFW Auxiliary.  VFW Post 7720 is the parent organization for accountability, supplying and equipping the Honor Guard. SIX separate chartered groups in Habersham and Rabun counties have joined.

  • VFW Post 7720

  • DAV Chapter 15
  • VFW Post 4570
