The 3-round volley, often mistaken for a "21" gun salute, is usually reserved for retirees. The military WILL NOT provide a firing team.
Our Honor Guard provides a 3-round volley to ALL veterans, upon request. This ceremony has ancient roots, but commonly used during the Napoleonic wars and American Civil War to signify the clearing of the battlefield of the dead and injured.
Dating back to the Civil War, taps was first used to denote "lights out," replacing a tune known as Tatoo.
Most funerals we can provide a live bugler to play Taps. In the event the bugler is unavailable, we have a real bugle with a built-in speaker to play just as loud as the real thing.
Our Honor Guard is comprised of volunteers from the VFW, VFW Auxiliary, DAV, and American Legion. We perform roughly 100 full military honors every year, along with numerous other events in Habersham and Rabun Counties.
A sampling of events: Wreaths Across America, National Day of Prayer, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Vietnam Veterans Day, Veterans Day, 13-Fold ceremony, and many more!
From Clayton to Mt. Airy, Clarkesville to Cornelia, and everywhere in between...
We receive requests from throughout Georgia, we've even travelled to LaGrange, Ellijay, Buford, Royston, and most recently, the Amazon Facility in Pendergrass!
We can't commit to every request. Please speak with the funeral home for honors.
If you are a veteran, or eligible for Auxiliary, you can join our Honor Guard.
New members will be issued a basic uniform.
